They were brought up by my agent (it’s that time of year where I cringe and pay the insurance bill for all the cars) as an option for collector policies. I’d save about $140 a year vs Hagerty for the same coverage, but I have never heard of them and can’t seem to find anyone who has.
I’d rather spend a bit more than try to make a claim down the road a
nd find the company barely even exists. Any oppopinions or experiences
?

I don’t have any experience but I’ve heard of them since the Seattle Mariners play at Safeco Field.

All I know about them is that they have the naming rights to the Seattle Mariners’ stadium.

We have them for both auto and home. They’re owned by Liberty Mutal from back in ‘09. They’re a legit company, they even have an app!!!! Ha. But really, we found them via an insurance broker and we’re the lowest rate. I shop auto a few times a year and they’ve been way better price than USAA who we used to be with. Did a claim on the car and the house this year no problem

Ever heard of Microsoft? When nobody else in this world was interested in them. T hey were the only ones who would underwrite that rag tag band of programmers. Safeco got pretty far in the world pretty fast.
That said, I have no idea how they treat their auto insurance customers or even how long ago they started in that market. They are not a fly-by-night company though.

Yeah, I had Safeco once. Used to be pretty affordable until I g ot a few tickets and w recked my car. M y policy shot up to about $400/mo for one vehicle . Can’t really blame them though ; I was a crapp y driver back then. But there was no way I could afford to keep driving under them, so I had to find another provider (and get my shit together as a driver ).

Good to know, thanks.

Thanks, as with all insurance companies all I can find online are people leaving scathing reviews so it’s good to know someone has had a decent experience with them haha

They seem ok, i had a policy with them for a bit. They are based out of seattle, and have helpful customer service reps.

$400/mo?? That’s crazy (or a typo?) but I guess ‘a few’ tickets and crash will do that haha

I had a policy with them for 2 years but never interacted with them during that time so I don’t really know how they handle claims or customer service. Although you’ve never heard of them, they are actually pretty big in the northwest and even have the naming rights to the Seattle Mariner’s stadium Safeco Field.

Not a typo. I don’t remember how many tickets exactly, but enough to trigger Michigan’s “driver responsibility fee” where the state bills you another ( $100, I t h i n k i t w a s ) on top of your tickets because you obviously SUCK at driving. Can’t say I didn’t deserve it.

Yup, I have SafeCo for my motorcycle, about 3 0% cheaper than Progressive, which was my former cheapest option. Even still have roadside assistance with them. Real company, app, web payments, etc. My friend is a broker and she says they are often a great deal for people with good records, but oddball/valuable vehicles.

Interesting, thanks. I do think it strange that their price on the Chevelle was within $1 of Hagerty but they are over $100 cheaper for the same on the RX7, but there are probably far fewer ‘
85 RX7s currently insured than ‘71 chevelles. I didn’t really want to have three cars on three separate policies but I may go that way (I have been very
happy with hagerty on the chevelle the past couple years it’s been with them).

Safeco is big in the PNW. I use them for my car, home, and umbrella insurance. They’ve been great every time I’ve talked to them...
I have been comparing them annually since moving up here, but they continue to have the best rates for me. They’re about twice as much as the AAA insurance I had in SoCal, but a great price for up here.

Long time Seattle based company sold to the Liberty Mutual conglomerate in 08. Basically the independent agency facing branch with similar products to the Liberty Mutual direct program. Safeco was a big supporter of the arts and the University of Washington until the sale to Liberty. Financials are solid. Much of the processing is done overseas now if you care about that sort of thing.

You must have some nice umbrellas!
(it’s a joke, I know what umbrella insurance is)

Haha. That is a funny point...
I’ve had a couple cases where I needed them and they were great every time.

I had Safeco for a few years. I had to file a claim with them when I hit a deer in my 540i about 5 years ago. Good company and smooth claim process.

As my current avatar suggests, I’m an Orioles fan, so I feel your pain. Also, sorry about the Bedard and Trumbo trades.

My GF worked until very recently for AAA and always had a very hard time when they had claims involved SafeCo. Apparently they have a rep in the industry as hard to work with. Then again, my best friend has had them for years and they even beat Geico’s price.
